Get Your Idea Off the Ground By Learning to Sell

You can have the best product in the world, but if you don’t know how to sell it, then all you’ve got is an idea and maybe a warehouse full of stagnant inventory. You see, in most cases, a
product will not sell itself; it needs your help.

The key to making a product sell itself is to make it sound so good to potential customers that they couldn’t imagine their lives without it. If you don’t believe me, let’s look at three things each and every person living in North America needs to survive: food, clothing and shelter.

Now, go pick up a newspaper, turn on your television set or walk down the street. I’ll bet that you see plenty of advertisements for food — for everything from apples to steak — clothing and, of course, housing or other accommodations.

These advertisements are trying to convince you to buy particular brands, eat particular things or live and stay in certain places. After all, at the end of the day, you always end up making a choice based on the sales pitch you’ve been given.

Of course, selling simply isn’t as easy as it sounds. After all, you may not be selling essential items or, if you are, you’re likely facing a boatload of competition. What’s going to separate you from the competition or build a business based on items people don’t necessarily need will be your ability to make your potential customers believers. And once they are customers, you’ll have to keep them coming back for more.

In fact, customer retention is more important than simply getting new people in the door. Your existing customers are the ones who will come back and spend if they’re happy with the service and quality of your product. Essentially, they are the ones who will ultimately decide if your business sinks or swims!

Next week, I will go through the secrets you need to know if you want to boost your sales and the profile of your business. Stay tuned!
