Emily Price says, “Despite reports that Windows 8 has been torpedoing PC sales, Microsoft’s third quarter wasn’t too bad. The company’s revenues of $20.49 billion were just under what analysts were expecting and its earnings per share of $0.72 beat expectations.
“The bold bets we made on cloud services are paying off as people increasingly choose Microsoft services including Office 365, Windows Azure, Xbox LIVE, and Skype,” said Steve Ballmer, chief executive officer at Microsoft, in a statement. “While there is still work to do, we are optimistic that the bets we’ve made on Windows devices position us well for the long-term.”
By division, Microsoft Business reported at 8% increase over last year, Server & Tools an 11% increase, Windows a 23% increase, Online Services an 18% increase, and Entertainment and Services jumped 56% over the year-ago quarter”.
