Froma Harrop, commentator from the Creators’ Syndicate reports that the lax registration rules of Twitter has sometimes led to trolls, louts and creeps hanging out and lobbing verbal grenades at people.

Harrop says, “Unlike Facebook — which requires members to submit their real names and email addresses when joining — Twitter lets anonymous louts romp through otherwise intelligent conversations.”

With a cloak of anonymity that protects user’s identity (short of a court order), people can say what they like and get away with it. As a reult, insults and threats are not uncommon.

Twitter has responded by providing a “Report Tweet” button so that the public can request that Twitter put a stop to abusive members.”
