Blathnaid Healy says, “Video bloggers who want to endorse products to their millions of fans in the UK will now have to follow a new set of rules released by the advertising watchdog on Wednesday.

The Committees of Advertising Practice’s guidance outlined how vloggers should deal with common advertising scenarios in an effort to clear up the sometimes opaque arrangements they have with brands around products featured in their videos. The rules apply to any video targeting UK consumers, sister organisation the Advertising Standards Authority confirmed to Mashable.

The new guidelines were established after a the vlogging community complained about the way some vloggers, including Phil Lester and Dan Howell, were featuring Oreos in their videos.

CAP says there’s nothing wrong with vloggers entering commercial relationships with brands, but they can’t mislead their viewers”.
