US to Spend $700 Million on Municipal Networks
Muniwireless Report: U.S. will spend nearly $700 million in next three years to build municipal wireless networks.
One of the highlights of the inaugural Muniwireless Conference, held in San Francisco September 28-29, was the release of a report, “2005 Municipal Wireless State of the Market Report”.
According to the report, “2005 Municipal Wireless State of the Market Report”, U.S. cities, towns and counties will spend nearly $700 million over the next three years to build municipal-owned wireless broadband networks.
The predictions by the report include:
The U.S. market will enjoy a compound annual growth rate of 134 percent between 2004 and 2007.
The U.S. market will exceed $400 million by 2007 as more big cities like San Francisco and Portland and more municipalities initiate wireless networks.
Government Technology magazine has announced the launch of its Digital Communities Web site. The site is designed to help communities use wireless technology and applications to expand and improve services for municipal and regional governments, businesses and citizens.
The Digital Communities is sponsored by Intel Corp. and other technology vendors. It contains news, feature articles, videos, case studies, interviews and other resources.
Government Technology has also announced a monthly “Digital Communities” newsletter and a series of seminars and conferences.
