comScore figures have indicated that nearly one third of about 35 million Americans carrying out travel related searches, in April, bought travel service online or offline within eight weeks.

About 82% of respondents said they were satisfied or very satisfied with their use of online search for travel. Out of the purchases made 80 percent were made online.

The study was conducted by Yahoo, comScore, and media shop. Both the online and offline purchases occurred some time after the initial search was conducted.

According to James Lamberti, vice president of comScore, marketing solutions, “The latent and multi-channel effects of search are particularly noteworthy”.

About 56 percent of respondents said search helped them find a new site. About 27 percent said search helped them find out a new brand.

According to Bradley King, travel category director for Yahoo Search Marketing, “This study shows what search can do for brand awareness”.
