comScore figures have indicated that online sales, for the week ending September 18, has increased to $1.5 billion up 16% from last year. Last year it was $1.29 billion in the corresponding week.

Online travel sales for the week is at $1.26 billion. Last year it was at $1.12 billion.

BizRate shopping search conducted a survey, “2005 Shop.org/BizRate Research Online Holiday Mood Study”, and found that 92% of pure-play online retailers will advertise offline this year.

Online retailers recognize the value of multi-channel marketing and 93% of multi-channel retailers will also advertise offline.

According to BizRate study, the most popular offline vehicles to drive traffic to web sites are catalog, 63% of merchants use them, in-store materials, 61%, and direct mail, 59%.

In addition, 70% of online retailers in the survey plan to increase their emphasis on paid listing search engine marketing.

BizRate research surveyed 119 online retailers, all members of trade group Shop.org, and 1,891 online buyers.
