Google has extended Google Print by including local language sites for European countries. The new additions to Google Print sites are: France, Italy, Germany, the Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Spain.
These sites enable users to search books included in Google Library Project, in their local language as well as in English.
The New York Times has reported, “Google is planning to discuss the new sites this week at the Frankfurt Book Fair, one of the largest annual gatherings of publishers, agents and authors.
A Google executive is also scheduled to take part in a three-hour panel discussion on Friday about the numerous competing efforts to digitize books”.
Among the European publishers that have signed pacts with Google are Grupo Planeta and Grupo Anaya of Spain, De Boeck and Editions De L’Eclat of France and Springer Science & Business Media of Holland. [source]
