Amazon has launched Mechanical Turk Beta, a program that pays users for completing tasks given to them.

“Amazon Mechanical Turk provides a web services API for computers to integrate Artificial Artificial Intelligence directly into their processing by making requests of humans. Developers use the Amazon Mechanical Turk web services API to submit tasks to the Amazon Mechanical Turk web site, approve completed tasks, and incorporate the answers into their software applications.

To the application, the transaction looks very much like any remote procedure call – the application sends the request, and the service returns the results. In reality, a network of humans fuels this Artificial Artificial Intelligence by coming to the web site, searching for and completing tasks, and receiving payment for their work.” [Source]

Amazon Mechanical Turk requires software developers to write in simple codes. The site will currently pay between $0.03 – $0.65 for each task performed. If the task performed is for third-party developers, Amazon will take a 10% commission.

The money earned by the developer is deposited into an Amazon account in the individual’s name. Residents of the United States can choose to have the money transferred to their personal bank account.

The Amazon Mechanical Turk has various uses for various target users:

For software developers: The Amazon Mechanical Turk web service builds applications. “The idea of the Amazon Mechanical Turk web service is to give developers a programmable interface to a network of humans to solve these kinds of problems and incorporate this human intelligence into their applications.” [Source]

For businessmen and entrepreneurs: Amazon Mechanical Turk web service helps businessmen who want tasks completed, by solving the problem of manpower and accessing a vast network of human intelligence. The advantage is the efficiency of the manpower and low cost.

For people looking for extra cash: Amazon Mechanical Turk web service helps find part-time work that can be done from anywhere, with individual skill sets in mind.
