The Abstract of the Patent “Methods and system of obtaining consumer reviews”:

“One embodiment of the present invention is a system and method of encouraging customers to review purchased items. Customers are provided with review requests a predetermined amount of time after the customer has purchased an item or had the item delivered.

The predetermined amount of time is related to an estimated time it will take the customer to evaluate the item. The reviews may include textual reviews that are presented to other customers and/or item ratings that are used to generate personal recommendations.” [source]

The United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the pattern on November 8, 2005.

The application has been filed on March 2, 2000.

The patent if for a method encouraging customers to provide reviews of purchased items.

The method comprises of the following:

Send an email to a customer who has purchased a product to write a review of a product purchased.

Recieve reviews from a cusotmer through a review form.

Present the first customer review in a group of reviews to a second customer interested in the item.

Automatically generate personalized recommendations for the first customer of other items.

This method of obtaining reviews is followed by many search engines like Google, Yahoo and MSN.

There are also thousands of ecommerce sites, video rental or review sites and online booksellers using a similar method of review.
