Google Launches Google Base Beta
Google has launched a beta version of Google Base. Small website owners to large organizations can submit data related to products, services and events, which Google will make searchable.
Google has launched Google Base, an extension of content collection services that Google already has such as, Google Sitemaps, Print and Video. Google Base is a free service. Small website owners to large organizations can submit data which Google will make searchable.
Customers can select an item type from a drop down box for posting items or create their own item types.
Some of the item types listed in the drop down are: vehicles, jobs, products, services, news and articles, course schedules, recipes, etc.
Bindu Reddy, Google Product Manager, has announced, “Anyone, from large companies to website owners and individuals, can use it to submit their content in the form of data items. We’ll host the items and make them searchable for free”. [source]
There are two ways to submit data items to Google Base:
One, individuals and small website owners can use an interactive user interface.
Two, large organizations and sites can use the bulk uploads option. For bulk upload organizations need to register with Google.
They can send content using standard XML formats.
“Google Base is a place where you can easily submit all types of online and offline content that we’ll host and make searchable online. You can describe any item you post with attributes, which will help people find it when they search Google Base”. [source]
It is also possible to advertise Google Base hosted page using AdWords. Google recommends that customers use their namespace in the visible URL of their ad.
Example: base.google.com/denise or base.google.com/john
