Dr. Brij Kothari, President, PlanetRead has said, “My organization, PlanetRead, works in Mumbai and Pondicherry, India. We have developed a “Same-Language Subtitling” (SLS) methodology, which provides automatic reading practice to individuals who are excluded from the traditional educational system, or whose literacy needs are otherwise not being met.” [source]
The SLS provides subtitles in Hindi for Hindi films. People who have never learnt to read begin their reading practice by watching the films, listening to the dialogues and reading the subtitles.
The PlanetRead site has announced that “a cup of coffee gives reading practice to 10,000 early literate people for one whole year”.
