eMail marketing has increased online sales, according to Return Path’s 2006 holiday email marketing survey. Half the people surveyed made purchase decisions based on emails and 50.2% took advantage of email offers.

Return Path surveyed more than 1,800 shoppers.

Other findings of the study are:

Free shipping offers influence more sales – a 5.8% increase over the previous year.

Discount offers influence purchase – a 7.5% increase over the previous year.

44% were not happy with the emails they received. They said that they received more email than they expected when they registered with a web site.

34% said when they did not want to receive the emails any longer they reported the marketing emails to be spam.
