Google has partnered with Volkswagen and nVidia to develop an in-car navigation 3D map. The development features a vehicle-centric touchscreen interface to Google Earth with graphics, 3D maps, traffic updates and routing.


Google has partnered with car manufacturer Volkswagen and graphics chipmaker nVidia to develop an in-car navigation 3D map. The development features a vehicle-centric touchscreen interface to Google Earth with graphics, 3D maps, traffic updates and routing.

According to the companies, “This open system harnesses the power of the web to maintain a dynamic database of current information on restaurants, dealerships, gas stations and other points of interest that can be overlaid directly onto the user’s 3D map”. [source]

Volkswagen, Google and nVidia, showcased the project at the 2006 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. They are also working on other advancements, including automatic personalized content updates for its vehicle navigation systems.
