An email sent to an AOL subscriber’s mailbox will have a stamp which says “AOL Certified Email” if the sender has paid the fee.
AOL spokesman Nicholas Graham said: “We were hearing not only from members but also e-mail partners that they wanted a different way of delivering e-mail that would stand out in the inbox and would guarantee them delivery.” [Source]
AOL and Yahoo will start offering the program in the coming months.
The program will be offered through Goodmail Systems. The program will target banks, online retailers, and other groups sending large amounts of email.
Companies that join the program have to pay the fee and also agree to send emails only to those recipients who agree to receive their emails.
The companies will also receive a report showing how many emails were received successfully.
The American Red Cross, the New York Times Co, and Experian have signed up with Goodmail to use the service.
