Google Accounts for 48.5% of All Searches in Feb 2006
Google is responsible for 48.5% of all searches in February 2006, according to a report by Nielson/NetRatings. Yahoo accounts for 22.5% of all searches, MSN for 10.7% and AOL for 6.6%.

Google’s search share increased from 48.2% in Jan 2006 to 48.5% in Feb 2006, with a 46% year over year growth. Yahoo’s search share in Feb 2006 was 22.5% with a year over year growth of 49%, followed by MSN with 10.7% and a year over year growth of 4%.
The total number of searches in February increased 28%, to 5.3 billion. The total number of searches in February 2005 was 3.8 billion.
In February 2006, an average internet user conducted 43.1 searches, compared to 33.2 searches in February 2005. The number of unique searches increased 6% year over year.
Michael Lanz, vice president of Nielson/NetRatings, said: “While the number of unique searches in the U.S. over the past year has remained relatively stable, we see search usage intensively increasing, not only in the number of searches done per person for general Web content, but also for searches initiated specifically for photos and graphics, as well as for comparison shopping information.” [Source]
There were totally 3.6 million image searches made in February 2006, compared to 1.8 million in the same month of 2005. Google accounted for 71.9% of all image searches, while Yahoo accounted for 19.1%. Ask.com accounted for 3.5%, MSN for 2.3% and AOL for 1.4%.
