Using niche marketing to boost your affiliate income
The importance of finding a niche, and marketing to that niche, is an essential strategy for the success of both affiliates and their merchants. Niche markets have many advantages, including lower levels of competition, higher profit margins and the ability to conduct low cost, high conversion target marketing campaigns.
Niche marketing means targeting a specific, often highly specialized segment of the audience. Niche marketing is the polar opposite of mass market advertising, and it can be considerably more profitable.
One good example of niche marketing is a product like a specialized clamp for tree stands. While those who do not hunt may not even know what a tree stand is, avid hunters are likely to have very strong opinions about the best way to attach their tree stand to their favorite hunting spot.
This kind of targeted marketing has been used for many years by both affiliates and merchants, and it has proven successful again and again. The key is to find those hidden niches, and market well for your merchants. Doing so can make these mini-affiliate programs as successful or even more successful as affiliate programs selling best selling, household name products.
Another great thing about using niche markets in your affiliate program is that there tends to be less competition among affiliates for niche products. It also means that merchants are probably looking as hard for affiliates as affiliates are looking for merchants.
Look at it this way, merchants who sell well known, household name type products are likely to be inundated with requests from affiliates. This large number of affiliates means that the pie can be spread very thin indeed, and each affiliate may end up with only a very tiny percentage of the merchant’s total sales. Unless the merchant is doing millions of dollars worth of business every month, it may not be worth your while to set up an affiliate program with such a merchant.
Niche markets, on the other hand, offer the opportunity for you to be one of only a handful of affiliates, or better yet the only affiliate, of a product in hot demand by a small but very profitable segment of the market.
While not everyone will want to buy the product you are pushing, those who do want to buy it are likely to search for it aggressively, and buy the product when they find it. This can mean click through and conversion rates that are many times higher than those with wider interest affiliate programs.
Mini-affiliate sites are great for promoting all kinds of niche market products. A mini-affiliate site is a small, easy to produce, site only two to three pages long. This site is used to promote only one or two affiliate programs.
Using informative, well written articles is a great way to market to any niche market. Since niche markets are so specialized, it is important to buy them for a small fee from a top quality web site such as http://www.YourOwnArticles.com.
These mini-affiliate sites have proven so effective for many affiliates that they have completely given up on mass market affiliate programs in favor of this highly profitable, targeted approach.
So as you set up your affiliate program, do not overlook the appeal of niche marketing and mini-affiliate sites. If you already enjoy a hobby or activity that could be considered a niche, be sure to research it further to find the hidden marketing opportunities that exist there.
These niche markets are often hiding in plain sight, and simply focusing on the activities we most enjoy can reveal some of the most highly sought after, and most successful, affiliate programs.
