Click Forensics has released the Click Fraud Index. According to the index, the average click fraud rate is currently 13.7%.
The click fraud rate of companies running advertising campaigns online through Tier 1 providers, including Yahoo and Google is 12.1%. The rate for those companies running through Tier 2 providers is 21.3% and through Tier 3 providers is 29.8%.
The index also revealed that the average cost per search term for Q1 is $4.75. This data was for the top key search terms across search advertising industries, including retail, financial services, health & fitness, technology and entertainment.
90% of click fraud originated from the U.S and Canada. Outside the U.S, the highest percentage originated from China and France.
Tom Cuthbert, president and CEO of Click Forensics Inc, said: “One of the most interesting discoveries from the first round of data reported by the Click Fraud Index is the lower-than-expected rate of overall industry click fraud. People in the industry have previously pegged the click fraud rate at anywhere from 20-35 percent. However, we’ve found that the level is actually on the lower end of those estimates.” [Source]
The Click Fraud Index publishes data from Click Fraud Network. Click Fraud Network is a click fraud detection service that helps companies monitor their online advertising campaigns for fraud.
