Lok’s eMail
Lok’s mail lists the basic rules for selecting mentors. They are:
“Look for a mentor who really cares about your success. (A mentor who is shoveling his latest products down your throat every month is a salesman disguised as a mentor. His emphasis is on HIS bottom line, not yours.)
– Talk to a potential coach and get a feel if this is the right mentor for you. (No matter how successful a potential mentor might be, if you don’t like or respect the person that person’s business style, ethics, or philosophy, then you shouldn’t be working together)
– Devour every information product a potential mentor has produced: articles, newsletters, audios, etc. (This will give you an idea of whether the mentor is teaching what you want to learn.)
– Find out if the potential mentor practices what he/she preaches? Is the mentor a role model for others? Do they have a mentor themselves?
– Choose a mentor with a sense of HUMOR. Life is too short to be boring. And business is already challenging enough without having to work with a dull, pompous stick-in-the-mud. You want a mentor, not a comedian…but a little humor can go a long way towards keeping a mentoring relationship fresh and lively”. [email with the subject: You gotta see this…]
