While it may sound like a hot new niche, pay per lead affiliate programs for patient referrals to elective health care services like plastic surgery and chiropractic are not kosher. Medical marketers are selling patients and the cost to California doctors could be a $50,000 fine, or even prison time. I discovered this press release a few weeks ago and didn’t have time to blog it then, but wanted to share it now. I’m not certain what the ramifications are for affiliates, but with the proliferance of pay per lead programs for everything under the sun, I wanted to pass this on and warn you to be careful about affiliate programs that sell patient leads.
