Google AdSense and Google policies

Since Google AdSense is part of Google, it is important for the owner of every participating web site to become familiar with the policies, rules and procedures which govern the program. It is important to understand the criteria that Google uses when evaluating and approving web sites for inclusion in the program, and it is important to respect the rules once you are approved for participation.

Google has never publicly acknowledged details of the approval process it uses, and that approval process could legitimately be considered a trade secret. Google does, however, publish its policies, and this provides web site owners with a good guideline for starting an AdSense business and remaining in compliance after you have been approved. Google updates its policies on a regular basis to keep up with the ever changing world of technology, and it is a good idea for Google AdSense participants to keep abreast of these changes as they occur.

There are few things as important to the success of a web site than high quality useful content, and the Google AdSense program is certainly no exception. Even though the exact approval criteria used by Google is a secret, content plays a large role in the approval of those web sites. In fact, web site content I the main criteria used, both in the approval of the site and in the selection of the best ads.

Most web sites rejected by the Google AdSense program are rejected because they do not contain enough quality content, or because they contain no content at all. Web sites that consist of only links and filter content designed for search engines are routinely turned down for the Google AdSense program. Those web sites that are solely focused on their own products and services are likely to be rejected as well. Google is very smart and the techniques they use are very sophisticated. Google AdSense has become quite adept at sorting out junk content and distinguishing it from real high quality content.

Those web sites that contain useful real content are those web sites that are most likely to be approved by Google, and those web sites are also the ones most likely to receive the best and most lucrative ads. The content on a web site can and does take many forms, including how to instructions, informational article, opinion pieces, topics from the daily news, analysis of current events and so forth. It is a good idea for web site owners to include several different articles relating to the subject at hand. This will help Google AdSense know that the site is legitimate, and it will also help to more sharply focus the ads on an ongoing basis.

Some businesses will also be rejected by the Google AdSense program if they are too highly specialized. For these highly specialized businesses, the only ads that may be appropriate would be those from competitors, and those competitor ads would likely be blocked by Google, or by the owner of the web site.

Web sites that focus only on links in an attempt to generate search engine traffic and boost rankings will also generally be rejected by the Google AdSense program. Even though these sites may rank highly in search engine queries, Google AdSense will generally reject them.

One of the easiest and most cost effective ways to let the Google AdSense program know that your site provides real content is to include a minimum of 30 or 40 informational articles as part of the web site. For best results each article should be between 400 and 500 words long, and the articles should be updated from time to time to keep the content fresh and relevant. If you are not up to writing the articles yourself, you can always hire a web copywriter to do the job for you, or use content that is freely available on the web. If you do choose to hire a web copywriter, it is important to purchase “full rights’ to the articles. This means that you own the articles and can do with them what you wish. The best web copywriters are familiar with search engine optimization as well, and they can produce articles that help to boost search engine rankings in addition to helping AdSense target ad delivery.
