I. From The Editor Dear Subscriber, Another year has almost passed and when I look back I see some great and not so great strides in article marketing. It is wonderful that so many people are using the technique but too many are doing it wrong. This fact inspired the feature article this month. I am in the unusual position of having an opening for a new client in my virtual assistant business. I offer administrative, marketing and public relations services. I’m very select about whom I work with and I seldom have openings, so if you need some help moving your business forward take a look at the profile of my “perfect” client and my services at http://www.DavisVirtualAssistance.com To your success, Bonnie Jo Davis |

Feature Article – The Difference Between A Blog Post And An Article |
||
I’m seeing a disturbing trend these days in article marketing. More and more writers are producing blog posts and calling them articles.
Let’s take a look at the difference between a blog post and an article. A blog post: * Is usually short and may be only 200 – 400 words * Can be more commercial than an article and may have an advertisement in the post itself * Is usually written from a stream of consciousness viewpoint and includes emotion * Contains the writer’s name, but not a byline In contrast, an article: * Is normally between 500 – 750 words long and sometimes as long as 1,000 words * Takes an educational tone and does not include advertising * Is written in a structured way including points of discussion and arguments along with a conclusion or summary * Lacks a tone of emotion and is more logical * Contains the writer’s name and a byline that includes a biography of the writer The line has blurred between blog posts and articles, but I would like to suggest that the very nature of article marketing requires an “article” rather than a “blog post” structure. In my Internet research, I have found that articles masquerading as blog posts received little to no reprints from publications and mostly reside in article directories. Real, well-written, articles following the article structure seem to sprout legs and get reprinted on hundreds of sites and occasionally show up on a blog as well. If you want maximum benefit from article marketing write real articles and create a blog for your blog posts! |

Feature Review – Affiliate “Project X” |
||
Affiliate “Project X” is an e-book written by Chris McNeeney. Chris is the author of Adwords Miracle and released this e-book in early October.
Allan Gardyne from AssociatesProgram.com recommended this e-book in his newsletter and I was instantly intrigued. I have been spending nights and weekends promoting products through affiliate programs in hopes of building a passive income that will replace working one on one with my clients. My confession: The truth is that I have made very little passive income and have wasted hours that I could have spent with my family. For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out what I was doing wrong and hoped that Affiliate “Project X” would teach me the error of my ways. The first thing I noticed while reading this e-book is how poorly it is written. The style is conversational but there are dozens of grammatical errors. Entire words are missing, misspelled or used incorrectly. Chris addresses this issue early in the e-book and urges readers to look beyond the typos to the helpful information included. This attitude, quite frankly, pissed me off. When someone claims to make thousands of dollars a month, then I expect them to spend a few bucks having a new e-book proofread. If they don’t, I assume they are lying about their wealth or they simply don’t care. Sloppy work erodes trust and places doubt in the mind of the reader. That doubt made it hard to finish reading this e-book and it took me twice as long as I expected. Does this e-book have any redeeming value? Some … the first two recommended techniques make sense and they are already being used by many. Perhaps this means that the technique works, but I won’t know until I try them myself. Technique three, The “Workhorse” Method, uses article marketing. Unfortunately, Chris falls for the “duplicate content filter” myth and suggests that you only submit your articles to three sites that are spidered daily by Google. He did spend some time on choosing keywords that was very helpful to me. A great deal of the rest of the book is about copying what other successful affiliates are doing to make money. He tells you just how to do this and recommends a couple of tools that are handy. Although there is nothing illegal about this way of thinking it made me squeamish. I am no angel, but I wonder how I will feel about myself if I take this route. When I bought this e-book, I thought I would write this review, recommend you purchase through my affiliate link and in return, I would offer a free membership in Article Submission Sites. I’m so uncertain as to the merit of this e-book that I cannot try to make money recommending it. If you would like to buy it just “Google” the title and you’ll find the purchase link. |
