From The Editor

I. From The Editor

A reader comment last month made me realize that I need to do a better job of reminding subscribers about the purpose and intention of this e-zine.

Articles That Sell Update is primarily about article marketing.  Each issue is from this perspective unless otherwise noted and the information provided cannot be applied to traditional newspaper, magazine or print publications.

I feel very blessed because I have warm relationships with so many publishers and the information they provide to me I pass on to you. Two article directory owners helped me write this month’s feature article.

I hope each of you has a wonderful holiday season and I am looking forward to 2007!

All the best,

Bonnie Jo Davis

Feature Article – Top 10 Mistakes Writers Make
That Drive Article Directory Owners Crazy

Owning an article directory can be a thankless job. Submitters are often careless or they use a submission program that blasts articles to directories without any concern for making a submission correctly.

Some of the owners of Article Dashboard directories have graciously offered to share the top ten mistakes they see submitters making over and over again. Pay careful attention and you will find some real nuggets of wisdom to help you get the most from your submissions.

Mistake #1: Not reading the submission guidelines or taking advantage of the free FAQ’s, checklists and other resources directories have developed to help you make a successful submission.

Mistake #2: Ignoring the required article length. Each directory has its own requirements, but submitters usually insist on submitting articles that are too short.

Mistake #3: Not tracking your submissions to find out which directories bring you the most traffic and then supporting those directories.

Mistake #4: Not categorizing articles correctly. Some submission services are guilty of this on their end, but incorrect categorization can also happen if you are using an automated submission script.

Mistake #5: Not respecting that article directory owners are giving you a free resource while they pay for the hosting, authorizing of articles and promotion of the directory.

Mistake #6: Not using the article keywords feature offered by many directories. Smaller Search Engines do look for keywords and this feature can bring you a steady stream of traffic.

Mistake #7: Learning the features of various directories. Article Dashboard software provides Google a meta tag for description using your article summary. If you don’t provide a summary your meta tag description will be empty.

Mistake #8: Submitting general articles to niche directories. This wastes your time and that of the directory owner. Don’t try fitting a square into a round hole.

Mistake #9: Improper punctuation. Directory owners often get quite a number of articles with sentences starting with lower case letters, missing periods at the end of sentences, etc.

Mistake #10: Submitting articles that don’t make sense. These are recognizable because you will find a few random sentences thrown in here and there such as “It takes a lot of time to research this topic. I hope this article will better inform you about this subject matter.”

Feature Review – Mini Ebook Secrets by Ewen Chia

Ewen Chia wrote this e-book in 2004 and it is still a very good value.

The topic is creating free mini (between 5-30 pages) e-books to promote an affiliate product. This in itself is an interesting concept but you can also use the free e-books to promote your own web sites and products. These techniques tie into article marketing because you can take the articles you have written and submitted and turn them into a free e-book.

Mini Ebook Secrets is written in an elegant yet straight-forward way. Some of the formatting is a bit rough and some of the links are dead. However, for the most part, the e-book is still relevant and a good value.

The Table of Contents includes:

Introduction: What’s This About?

PART A – Getting It All Together

Chapter 1: Secrets To The Right Affiliate Program

Chapter 2: Super Affiliate’s Profit Tools

Chapter 3: The “Profit Loop System”

PART B – Mini Ebook Creation

Chapter 4: Quick Start Guide To Ebooks

Chapter 5: Mini Ebook Topic Generation Tactics

Chapter 6: How To Create Your Mini Ebooks In 24 Hours Or Less!

PART C – Mini Ebook Traffic

Chapter 7: How To Get Your Mini Ebook Downloaded By The 1000’s!

Conclusion: A Final Word

Along the way, Ewen includes some truly valuable resources that handle many of the tasks that he sets out for you. He also includes some controversial tips to obtain traffic to your e-book squeeze page, but makes sure to tell you not to use them if you feel uncomfortable.

I always cringe when I see the word “Secrets” in a paid e-book such as this one because nothing actually is secret. The real value is in the time saving factor the e-book offers… time you can use to generate income, plus unique perspectives on ideas you probably wouldn’t come up with on your own.

In conclusion, I took lots of notes and I’m going to start using what Ewen taught me today. You can purchase this e-book at:
