Welcome to 2007 and the beginning of our 4th year in publication!

Unfortunately, 2006 saw the demise of many article submission sites, including a few that I’ve been using for years. However, there is still a respectable number of worthwhile submission sites. Directory owners have realized the difficulty in making money with content, causing some to give up their efforts. This actually is a good thing … the more reputable and stable sites like EzineArticles.com will be around for the long haul, while the others will disappear.

Wishing you a fabulous 2007!

Feature Article – Does Your Writing Suck?

Are you writing your own articles and finding your writing skills not up to par? Thankfully, small improvements can make a huge difference in your article marketing success.

Here are ten valuable tips for improving your writing:

1. Omit unneeded words. Many submission sites have a strict word limit for submissions. However, if your articles are too long, you need to pare down and eliminate words that aren’t critical to your article.

2. Write in complete sentences complete. Don’t make people guess at what you’re trying to say.

3. Don’t use hyphens in sentences unless you need one for a compound word. Avoid creating an article that looks like Morse code!

4. Write in simple language. Don’t overwhelm readers with words they won’t understand.

5. Always, always, always include a concluding paragraph at the end of your article. Summarize points covered in your text.

6. Don’t abbreviate. There are multiple interpretations of abbreviations. Don’t confuse your readers.

7. Write as though you are speaking to one person. Connecting with each reader is critical to your article marketing success.

8. Don’t be too formal or too informal in your writing style. Middle of the road is the best way to go with your writing style.

9. Avoid run on sentences. Cut them once and then go back and cut them again.

10. Avoid profanity. This seems like common sense, but I reject articles from my article newsgroup everyday for raw language.

Take these small steps to improve your writing today. If you find yourself still struggling, spend a few dollars and signup for a writing e-course on the web.

Feature Review – Article Friendly Script

Do you have a favorite hobby? Do you have a favorite article topic? If you answer yes to either question then you may want to set up your own article directory. One of my virtual assistant clients saw a deficiency in article directories in that none of them focused on her topic of Business Etiquette.

She gave me the task of selecting and setting up software. Having had one disastrous experience with Article Directory, I was pleased to find Article Friendly. It is a similar script with some big differences.

Article Friendly is much easier to install and technical support is friendly, timely and often free. Installation and script customization are both available for a reasonable price. Some of the features I love are:

1. Free Tutorials and Training 2. Easy-to-Use Web-Based Administration 3. Free and Frequent Updates and Enhancements 4. Photo Upload Feature for Authors’ Use 5. Language Translation Feature 6. Links Directory 7. Contact Us Form 8. Article Submissions and Topics Editing Feature 9. Duplicate Article Delete Feature

… and I could go on and on. If you or someone you know wants an article directory then I highly recommend you try Article Friendly. If you click the affiliate link below and purchase, you will be contributing to the costs of this e-zine!
