Heather Hopkins, VP of Research, Hitwise UK, said: “The highest volume search terms across the web continue to be brand searches, highlighting that consumers are using search engines to navigate the web.
In both the UK and the US, we found that the highest volume search terms in 2006 were for brands, with consumers typing in the name of the site they hope to reach into the search engine. The biggest difference between the US and the UK in 2006 was MySpace. MySpace related searches made up five of the top ten search terms across all categories in the US, whilst the highest MySpace term ranked #13 in the UK”. [source]
