University 20/20

SEO 20/20 has been around for about 8 months now. I have had the pleasure of helping thousands of aspiring webmasters to build quality websites but there seems to be someting missing. A disconnect if you will.

I think the problems that I am facing as a teacher stem from the fact that there is so much information out there on making money online that it easy to become confused and end up in a state of suspended animation.

What I mean is that with an ongoing barrage of information on making money online it becomes very hard to decide what direction to go in and what area of Internet Marketing to concentrate on first.

When asked this question by students, I usually respond… You need to invest your precious time into educating yourself in a systematic and pratical manner. Making money online is not about throwing as many websites up as you can and then sitting back and collecting your earnings. You need to acquire the basic skills of:

1. Market Research
2. Market Profitability Research
3. Keyword Research
4. Web Site Blueprinting (forming your market and KW research into a website structure)
5. Web Site Silo Design (Implementing the site blueprint)
6. Traffic Building Skills (social networks, blogging, etc.)
7. List Building Skills
8. Monetization Research

In order to acquire the vital skills above you need to focus on your education in a systematic, hands-on kind of way. You need to ignore the hundreds of “money making” offers that are surely flooding your inbox.

By focusing on the skill sets above you will acquire the necessary skills to be able to locate profitable markets, conduct deep market research and finally determine an exact strategy for dominating that market.

This stuff is easy to do. But like anything else, you must learn these skills for it to become easy.

There are billions of dollars exchanging hand on the Internet. Claiming your $1000 or $1,000,000 is not that hard once you are able to discover and take advantage of all this opportunity without the help of a “guru”.

This leads to another issue… Gurus

What exactly is a Guru?

I define a guru as an Internet Marketer that creates “opportunity” for aspiring webmasters and then places that opportunity for sale.

Gurus are professional copywriters and appeal to your emotion of being able to “finally” make a full time living online. Gurus make MOST of their money by selling opportunity and nothing else.

When you buy into an opportunity it is easy to forget the 8 cornerstones of knowledge mentioned above. Most people don’t even know that they NEED TO KNOW these 8 skill sets in order to succeed online. They buy into the hype and promise of quick riches instead of investing in the knowledge that will allow them to seek and create their OWN opportunites online.

I have found this to be the missing link that so many aspiring web entrepreneurs are after either consciously or unconciously. They are seeking “the answer”.

The answer is simple… Stop wasting your time looking for opportunity. Instead invest in the knowledge and skills that will make opportunity apparent to you. Then follow your research to develop a specific and profitable action plan.

There is no other long-term way to build a business online… PERIOD!

This has led me and my partners to develop what is called University 20/20.
