How do I decide which opportunities to attack first?

I received the following question from a reader that I thought many here would benefit from my answer.

Woody,

How in the HELL do you decide which opportunity to attack first when you have so many product ideas, affiliate marketing ideas, or whatever to choose from?

– Concerned and Confused

I look for a core product and build ancillary programs that compliment the core. All products upsell the core and the core sells each of the ancillary products in turn. As for how do I select which opportunities, I select them based on interest first, market demand second. I choose recurring first, one time sales second.

Here are some examples:

In my former life, I sold adult content. My core product was a subscription based site at $29.95 per month. But I cloned different parts of this site and sold them as stand alone DVD’s. The DVD’s made reference back to the site whenever possible and the site obviously sold each of the DVD’s. The DVD’s were hosted on their own domains and each one had its own marketing plan.

When I left that ‘space’, I followed my passion first, which was sharing my knowledge. My strong point just so happens to be making money. My passion for teaching and my knowledge led me here. But that was no mistake. I looked into MLM, basic biz opp through direct mail, as well as affiliate marketing as they each presented an interesting opportunity. But I chose the info publishing online marketing space.

Once here, I had to establish a presence (this blog) and set my core product up with a recurring income stream (Maximum Overdrive). I have ancillary products in the works, which will all feed my print newsletter and my print newsletter will also mention all of my ancillary products as they become available.

This is now my core BUSINESS, but not the only money maker I have. I still have AdSense and affiliate sites.

So outside of my core business, how do I choose what to focus on and how much of my time is spent focusing on them?

Before I launched this blog, affiliate marketing was 90% of my time and AdSense was 10%. Now that this blog is here, I’m busy creating new products so only 10% of my time is focused on my affiliate marketing efforts. This means that for me to be successful there, I better play it smart (remember the post on processes?)

I hope this answers your question.

If you have any specific questions about choosing opportunities to pursue, please ask them in the comments section.

Enjoy,

Woody
