Getting a New Site Indexed
Question: How long does it take to get a new site indexed?
Answer: Yahoo and MSN continue to spider and index sites within three weeks of getting found. To get found, all you need is a single link from any other web site that they normally crawl.
Yahoo is usually the fastest, but because there are so many links from their paid directory in the results pages, it may be hard to find your site in a top 20 position. Take a look in MSN instead, and your site will usually appear there within 20 days, if you’ve optimized your pages for the MSN algo.
Google on the other hand, reserves the top 30 spots for older sites, but it’s not a sandbox penalty per se. The sandbox effect is just an artifact of the crawl and filters on top of the PageRank algo.
In addition to Trust, which is basically how long your site has been around, along with human assisted or spider approval, Google also has temporal factors at work. These include how long your domain name has been registered for, the age of the incoming links, the age of the sites linking to you, and of course the PR of the linking pages.
All these safeguards are in place to prevent the “pump and dump” spam sites, that are machine generated. Most of these templates leave a footprint of one kind or another. Most are easily detected and filtered out.
If you want a new site to show up in the Google index faster, I suggest getting a link or 10 from PR4 or higher pages. A couple of paid links in popular directories like Yahoo, or some links from the Article Underground Blog network would do the trick. The higher the PR of the page that links to you, and the longer it’s been around, the sooner you’ll get found in Google’s index.
My Favorite Keyword Research Tool is…
Question: Thanks ever so much for all your support and advice in the past. I’ve managed to build a successful AdWords business with the help of you and Perry Marshall.
Overture is planning to remove their keyword tool. I’ve used other keyword tools and they’ve not been functioning correctly, if at all.
Is their any other keyword tool you’d recommend? What do you use? Are you encountering any problems? Is Wordtracker the only option?
Answer: Glad to hear you’ve put together a profitable business model using the tools I’ve provided. It’s pretty easy when you build on the basics.
Yep… You nailed the reason why all the other keyword tools are acting wonky. It’s because they all relied on Overture’s tool. (Which is now running on an olde Pentium II in a basement somewhere. 😉
I use NicheBot for all my keyword research. I would highly recommend it to anyone. Right now, they use Wordtracker as their main database.
NicheBot offers many different ways to look at the data. But if you prefer, you can always dump the results into Dr. Williams KRA (Keyword Results Analyzer) to quickly sort out the bits you’re looking for.
Keyword Results Analyzer ==> http://www.cdzn.com/kra
Since you focus on AdWords, NicheBot’s built in LSI tools will really help. The results come straight from Google. You can see at a glance, how competitive each PPC keyword is, and know if you want to dig further into any niche.
If you choose to “Get PPC Info” it will cost a few pennies, but those numbers come direct from Google using your API. You’ll see the price range people are bidding on to get top spots in each keyword you select. You’ll also see the number of clicks you can expect per day.
Another nice thing, is the use of credits instead of a flat monthly fee. That means you can poke around and do preliminary research, and only pay a credit (like 30 cents) when you choose to use the “deep digging” or API tools.
Try NicheBot ==> http://www.cdzn.com/nb2
Trust me… once you start using NicheBot to do your keyword research, you won’t need, or even want to use anything else. Go ahead and try it out for yourself. It’s only one dollar.
Monkeying Around with SeaMonkey
Question: I’m going to learn how to make web pages. I downloaded and installed SeaMonkey, or at least I think I did. When I click into what I downloaded, it just takes me to their web site. I was expecting a more standard program I guess. Did I download the wrong thing? Or do you use the html editor thru their website?
It’s stuff like this that throws me for a loop. I read thru their FAQ, but still couldn’t figure out what the heck was going on. Thanks for your help. No one has ever accused me of being a techie. Any other suggestions?
Answer: That’s because the Browser is set to use their home page on start up. To change it to a blank page, under the SeaMonkey menu, choose Preferences and then to “Display on Startup” a blank page.
To enter the edit mode, try Command E or choose Edit Page from under the Edit menu. You can then start poking around on a blank page.
Try pasting in some text and formatting it… bold, center and changing colors etc. When you save the page, it will save as html… or in other words, a web page.

Other suggestions? I admire you for trying to learn html, but you could make your sites a lot faster and easier using Dr. Andy Williams Website Builder. Go and watch the videos, as it really stops the tedium and makes site building a snap.
Andy’s Site Builder ==> http://www.cdzn.com/wsb
Another way is to get instruction on how to use SeaMonkey and Mozilla to create your html. If you’d like to learn how to build minisites, I recommend Jim Edwards Mini Site Creator course.
Jim’s Mini Site Course ==> http://www.cdzn.com/msc
(Both Jim and Andy’s products have been updated this year. If you’ve considered getting either one of them in the past, they are definitely worth a second look.)
And don’t rule out private membership sites like the Keyword Avalanche. They have a very helpful community and rarely does a question go unanswered.

The Quality and Quantity of Bad Advice
There’s a lot of bad advice out there. Recently I saw an AdSense product that encourages you to steal your competitors ads, sell the same products as they do, and try to knock them out of the game. Now they plan on releasing software to automate the process.
Hey… They may just be ads, but they are protected by copyright. Steal an ad and you could get sued… for all you gained and the damages. Fun eh?
Your host can shut off your site without notice. Your ad campaign dropped. You or your company can get banned from AdWords. But gee, they never mentioned any of that fun stuff in the course did they?
Another one is an article slicer dicer. They say that it can make multiple versions of the same article, so you can submit them to the article directories… That is so wrong. It’s article spam, pure and simple.
Many of the smaller article directories have gone out of business, due to the volume of automated article submissions. This product encourages and compounds the problem.
Remember how nofollow links were added to blog comments. Then the social bookmarking sites. Then Wikipedia?
Any time you aim to mine backlinks and PageRank, the plan usually backfires and fails. It would be very simple to add nofollow to all the article directory sites.
It’s even simpler to discount the links completely. In the future, you can expect the search engines to do just that… ignore multiple links to your site from the same article directory or RSS newsfeed sources.
In fact, on two of my test sites, there’s evidence to suggest that it’s already taking place. One site is heavy with articles and excerpts from a leading article directory. The other is heavy with RSS and newsfeeds.
Both sites used a combo of manual and random auto posting. Both started out well. Both got up to about PR4. Then after about six months, they suddenly died with a PR0. Not banned… but PR zero.
The consensus? Google is finding and blowing away sites that get the majority of their content from press releases, newsfeeds and popular article sites.
Why? Because it’s all duplicate content. The robots figure it out. The PageRank gets stripped and the site is unceremoniously dumped into the supplemental index.
So stay away from anything that makes wild promises. They might sing a great tune, use all popular buzzwords like “LSI” and the “long tail” of the search.
But in reality, robots that automate the process of writing, submitting, link building, and PR harvesting, don’t have the same quality, emotions, or quirkiness of humans. They tend to get found out, filtered out, and outright banned, by smarter robots designed by the very smart people who run the search engines.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m in favor of things like Dr. Andy Williams Site Builder, and software that can assist you with site building tasks and modifying articles. But what’s just plain wrong and silly, is to think that you can dump some keywords into a robot, and have it run without getting caught. Those days – thank goodness – are largely behind us.
So next time someone tells you their software slices and dices. It does the thinking and the submitting… tell ’em to keep it. Your search engine positioning, your PPC campaigns and all the work you’ve put into building your business, your trust and your reputation, are just too precious to risk, on the latest slicing dicing machine.
21 New Products in Just 10 Days
Gee… in only 10 days, I received 21 different product announcements. There was a conversion tracker that showed which click leads to the sale. An article slicer dicer.
A software collection. Three seminars. Two membership sites. Four “methods” that guarantee success. Four (yawn) ebooks. One giant 10 CD package. A landing page maker. And three coaching services. SIGH!
As Shirley Bassey sang…
They say the next big thing is here,
that the revolution’s near,
but to me it seems quite clear
that it’s all just a little bit of history repeating
The newspapers shout a new style is growing,
but it don’t know if it’s coming or going,
there is fashion, there is fad
some is good, some is bad
and the joke is rather sad,
that its all just a little bit of history repeating.
(Copyright 1998 Propellerheads’ History Repeating.)
Every single one of these 21 products has been done before, in one form or the other.
In the case of the conversion tracker, both Google and AWeber have them included as part of your account. Or if you prefer industrial strength tracking, there’s always HyperTracker. And it’s only 15 bucks a month.
The landing page customizer… oh please, that’s so 2004. One coaching service tells us to delegate everything out… well, duh? The other coach tells how to approach “gurus” and do a JV (Joint Venture). Gee… didn’t Neil Shearing write that course over four years ago?
The article dicer… it’s dangerous and there’s no real need for it. The ebooks, marketing methods and product creation… all repeats of what you’ll find on my downloads page in Clickin’ it Rich, the Keyword Report, the 200 Page Challenge, and Quick & Easy eBook Publishing.
One dude has emailed me 12 times in 30 days. Two more hit me 11 times. The average opportunist hits me five to seven times per month. Sheesh!
It’s getting so bad, that one self proclaimed AdSense Guru started sending me junk every two days. Sometimes every day. He set a record for 22 email in a single month.
There was offer after offer, with only a tidbit of useful info, for every nine pieces of junk. Then I found out that he’s getting his “useful” info from the Google AdSense Blog. So I unsubscribed from him, and now get my info right from the source.
Google AdSense Blog ==> http://adsense.blogspot.com
Google AdWords Blog ==> http://adwords.blogspot.com
Now my inbox has a lot less noise and clutter. Suddenly it dawned on me… if you want a more peaceful, quiet, healthy, happy life, and get a better work environment, unsubscribe from all the useless junk. So I’ve started down the path and am taking a serious look at what I’ve been getting.
I sorted my Inbox by the “From” field. I set my threshold at 70%. Any person or organization that doesn’t give valuable information at least 70% of the time, that’s 7 out of 10 email… is toast. Bye bye opportunists and direct response marketers that have given the honorable profession of internet marketing a bad name.
So far I’ve taken myself off over 20 lists. I challenge you to do the same. If you don’t get value, unsubscribe. Even if it’s this very newsletter. Yes, you heard that right.
If you do not believe in your heart, that I give you at least 70% value to 30% offers, I want you to unsubscribe from this newsletter… because that is my promise to you!
It’s my Pick 10 Guru Challenge. I want you to pick 10 sources of information from “so called” internet marketers. I’m not talking memberships, blogs, websites, newsfeeds or other “self-directed” choices, or places that you “choose” to visit.
I’m talking the stuff that lands in your inbox and causes distractions, uncertainty, fear and doubt, with their “next big thing” and “revolutionary” systems and products, when like the song says…
some is good, some is bad
and the joke is rather sad,
that its all just a little bit of history repeating.
My challenge to you… even if you don’t select me for your team… I want you to Pick 10 Gurus, or 10 sources of “marketing related” info that are permitted access to your inbox. If something is truly important or revolutionary, you’ll certainly hear it from one of them.
Unsubscribe from all the rest of the noise, and not only will you be a lot more happy, healthy and peaceful, you’ll be surprised at how much real work gets done, and what you truly can achieve without all the distractions.
Let’s see… who will I pick for my team of professionals? I find great value in communication from Ken McCarthy, Perry Marshall, Dr. Neil Shearing, Dr. Andy Williams, Jerry West, Phil Wiley, Jim Morris, Mike Liebner, Jim Edwards, Jared Spool, Sherman Hu and a handful of others. Who will you choose for your team?
I’ll continue to read and listen to the wisdom of the Wizard of Ads, the Eisenberg’s Grok, Gitomer’s Sales Caffeine, Zig Ziglar, Seth Godin, Buzz Out Loud, SEO Revolution, Larry Chase’s Web Digest, StomperNet, Keyword Avalanche, Article Underground, and a few more.
As for most everything else hitting my inbox… “the joke is rather sad, that its all just a little bit of history repeating.”
Pick 10. Delete and unsubscribe from the rest. I challenge you to do the same.
