Greetings, friend —

It’s been a while since I’ve written, I know. My apologies. But I had the urge to share a few things with you today. It’s Friday, the Holidays are here, and things are starting to get very exciting in the wild world of web video.

You see, if you’re a web site owner, small business owner, or simply someone who wants to see what the future holds, then I have some startling statistics to tell you about…

According to comScore’s Video Metrix report for September 2007, nearly 75 percent of U.S. internet users watched a video online, averaging three hours of video per person during the month.

Nearly 136 million Americans, or approximately 75% of all U.S. web users, viewed online video just in the month of September!

Oh my.

And during that time, they viewed 9 BILLION+ videos online, with Google’s YouTube and Google Video site delivering nearly a third of them. Google sites also captured the largest online video audience with nearly 72 million unique viewers.

In addition, nearly 70 million people viewed more than 2.5 billion videos on YouTube.com alone. The average internet video viewer watches 68 videos per month, or more than two per day, with the average online video duration running a mere 2.7 minutes.

Yikes!

So… what do these numbers mean?

1. Keep those short attention spans in mind when creating your own videos for the web. Unless you’ve got something *really* compelling that can hold the viewer’s attention for a longer period of time, keep your videos under three minutes.

2. Online video is not a fad. Not only do users now expect it on web sites, but they also go looking for it. So if you’re not yet creating videos for the web, you should probably get started – and soon. Make it one of your New Year’s resolutions for 2008. Give it a shot… it’s not as hard as it looks!

3. It’s not enough to put a video on your site and hope people will find it. You also need to make it available where your prospects already are. And judging by those comScore numbers, there’s a good chance that lurking among those 72 million YouTube and Google Video visitors you’ll find many of your prospects.

As a result, we’re making it much easier for WVZers to get their videos in front of that immense audience…

As a WebVideoZone member, you’ll soon be able to upload your videos to your WVZ account, YouTube, Google Video (and more?) – all at the same time.

Imagine being able to add high-quality, interactive “call-to-action” videos to your site using the Web Video Player(tm), while also making those videos available to a massive audience – without any extra effort.

This powerful new tool will create a web video “double whammy” that will rock your site and business. Look for it at the WebVideoZone in early 2008…
