Is Your Affiliate Marketing Better or Different??

In affiliate marketing standing out from the crowd is most definitely a good thing. One of the easiest ways you can differentiate yourself from countless other affiliates is by going the extra mile with your visitors. To be really successful in affiliate marketing you have to do things a little better or a little different than your competition. Going above and beyond the norm will definitely be appreciated by your customers and it is an outstanding foundation to build your business.

Being different from your competition is usually a good thing. The best way I have found to be a little bit different is to offer bonuses. What kind of bonuses? One of the best ones I offer from time to time is a discount for those people who purchase a product through my affiliate link. I have found that this strategy is really useful when I am an promoting a high end product that carries a higher price tag.

An example of this might be when a well known internet marketer launches his newest and most highly anticipated course on “How to Make a Million Dollars in Twelve Hours”. Okay, so this well known internet marketing guru already has a ton of affiliates chomping at the bit to promote this new product on the launch date. They all have their emails loaded into their autoresponder and are ready to promote the most anticipated product of 2008 to their list. Dang, How is little old me going to compete with that?

One of the best strategies that some of the cream of the crop affiliates use is to give their customers “a little bit extra”. What does that mean?

Most of the affiliates promoting a product are just going to send out the canned emails that are provided to them by the merchant. Instead of sending out the same email that all of the other affiliates are using, take the time to draft your own email and set up your very own special promotion for any customers who purchase the product through your affiliate link. You want your bonus to be complimentary to the merchant’s product if at all possible. You can do a number of things. Offer a tele-seminar where you teach others some of the tips and strategies you use in marketing your affiliate products. Record an interview on a related topic and transcribe the notes. Turn the notes into a PDF download. Offer 30-60 minute coaching sessions. I would suggest you be careful with this one as it can be very time consuming should your promotion sky rocket. You can always limit this to the first 10 purchases made through your affiliate link.

Another strategy that works extremely well is to offer a cash discount to customers that purchase through your affiliate link. Perhaps you are promoting a high priced item that sells for $997 and you are receiving a 50% commission per sale, it could be worth your time and effort to offer to people who buy through your link a discount of $125-$175. This is a tremendous strategy and will provide your customers with a legitimate incentive to buy the product through your affiliate link. I mean come on, who wouldn’t love that much of a discount?

Now, before you get too excited, I will mention that there are a few merchants out there that may not want you to use the discount type of promotional strategy. You should read over the affiliate terms of service and even contact the affiliate program manager or merchant directly and ask them your questions. It is better to be above board from the beginning. This is one situation where it is not better to beg for forgiveness rather than ask for permission.

The key thing to remember is that the more effort you put into your affiliate promotions the greater your chances of making more sales. Customers do notice those affiliates that go above and beyond by creating bonuses and offering discounts. The message you are sending to your customers is that you do believe in the product you are promoting. Focus on choosing high quality products to promote and offer a great bonus and you will put considerable distance between yourself and that army of affiliates promoting the same products.
