Running Out of Gas?
Here in the US, we’re coming up on the Memorial Day weekend. Usually, this is a great time to pack the family into the car and make a trip to visit relatives, to see the sites nearby, or to just get away for a nice three-day road trip to nowhere.
Those who don’t leave town often entertain those who did travel, at barbecues we all love to hold in celebration of the official opening to summer.
This year could be a lot different.
The price of gasoline has skyrocketed so dramatically that few who could afford a road trip last year can afford one this year. Even worse – spiraling fuel prices have affected the cost of the foods we used to love to barbecue.
It’s getting ugly out there.
The bottom line is that a lot of Americans (and many people from all over the world) are now giving up what they used to do for fun because there simply isn’t enough money left over at the end of each paycheck.
It’s completely wrong. It’s not the way people should have to live. Without some fun, some break in the routine, you can literally go nuts. I don’t want to see that and I’m certain you don’t, either
I won’t go into the obvious politics behind all that’s happend. But, I do want to tell you what I think you can do about it.
Start by replacing the time you used to spend doing things you truly enjoy doing with some simple activities that can easily help pull you out of the economic doldrums, whether the economy recovers now or later.
The key, as I’ve pointed out here before, is to make more money. This is something you can’t do overnight, despite what you might hear from so many marketers who constantly bang at your email door and pop into your mail box at home (check out my new blog at www.UglyFacts.com for more on the scams you need to avoid). The reality is that building a small business, online or offline, takes some work and planning. It doesn’t have to be hard work – but it can be hard finding the time to put in the bit of work that is required, if you’re already working a day job or two to make ends meet.
This can definitely be a recipe for running out of gas and losing your resolve to make a business of your own work.
Now you have your best chance ever. With every negative there’s a positive. If you now have less money to spend on the things you used to do to relax and have fun, chances are you’re also spending less time doing them. Trade in that time right now. Apply it toward building a small Internet-based home business. Swap out the fun time you used to spend and instead have fun working on a business that same amount of time. It’ll occupy your time and move you forward to a place where you no longer have to decide between having fun or just sitting like a lump because you’re broke after paying the bills.
Of course, it helps a lot if the work you did to build your business is also fun. I propose that the work involved in building a small business can be fun when you build your home-based business around what you would already be doing for fun to begin with.
Instead of actually going to stamp shows and building your collection when you’re short of cash, for example, why not research a favorite niche of your hobby – maybe the history and continued use of triangle-shaped stamps, or some other sub-category of the hobby – then turn what you’ve found into information you can then make available to other collectors?
The worst-case scenario is that you’ll come away knowing more than you did before. With some applied effort, you could just build a list of other collectors interested in learning more about what you’ve discovered – and you might be able to turn it all into an information publishing business surrounding your favorite hobby or interest – whatever that might be.
I’ve written a book about this. The topic is so important to me that I also co-produces and star in a full-length movie on the same subject.
My book, titled, Will Work For Fun: 3 Simple Steps for Turning Any Hobby Or Interest Into Cash, from John Wiley and Sons, is now shipping from Amazon and Barnes and Nobel. Or, check your local bookstore. If they don’t have it – tell them they should stock it!
The movie, The FUNdamental You, will be released within the next two weeks.
Even better – I’m putting together a huge book and movie launch celebration where you can present your Amazon or Barnes and Nobel receipt number for the book for a discount on the movie. You’ll then be rewarded with access to a huge pile of gifts including audio programs, training courses, manuals, e-books, newsletters and more. Thousands of dollars’ worth. Just for buying the book or the movie.
You can also watch the movie online. Or oder a book and movie combination that includes some added-value bonuses you only get by buying both.
Check out all the details at www.FUNdamentalYou.com.
Get busy having some business-building fun that will pay for your future fun forever.
Hmmm. Did I just write that? It almost sounds … poetic. Poetry is truth beautifully presented so – yes – I suppose it does fit the description.
See you in the movies (and next week!). And, if you’re in the U.S. – have a safe, happy Memorial Day weekend.
