Know When To Shut It Off
You gotta know when to hold “˜em, know when to fold “˜em, know when to…
Wait a minute. That’s not the opening I’d originally planned for this post. Even worse – now that song’ll be rolling around in my head for the rest of the day.
It could be worse.
Anyway – today I wanted to remind you to stop listening to the news. Period. Stop it. Know when to turn it off.
I used to be a news junkie. I had my favorite TV news channel on all day long because it was great a background babble I could tune into now and then. And I made my favorite news site my home page…
You get the picture.
Now I watch less than one hour of news in the evening, to catch up on what happened today.
The reaon? They will kill your spirit!
If you watch much news at all – or read it (some of us still do that, I’m sure), you’ll notice a trend. Bad news sells, therefore bad news is what you usually see.
I’ve actually watched newscasters trying to spin good news into bad news.
This is especially so when it comes to the economy.
They predicted dire problems for our country when the housing explosion cooled…they predicted $5 gallon gasoline as soon as oil prices started going UP…they predicted we would run out of oil completely soon.
If you watch this stuff too much it becomes what you think about. What you think about happens. Especially when you think about the same things millions of other people are thinking about.
Lately, we’ve seen a steady decline in the price of oil. Gas prices at the pump have steadily dropped for almost a month. And the housing crises, while certainly not over by any means, is at least starting to slow down getting worse.
And the November election keeps getting closer and closer.
I’m not at all convinced things are getting better. But all of these recent developments certainly do reflect the possibility they might have hit their low point and might not be getting any worse.
That’s good news, isn’t it? Maybe not great new…but it’s at least hopeful.
A recent newscast I listened to, however, said oil and gas prices are dropping – but quickly added that all of that could be quickly erased by just one bad storm in the Gulf or one overthrown oil-producing nation losing a pipeline.
Then they reminded the viewers that there are still X number of days left in this year’s hurricane season – and X number of rebellions going on in X number of oil-producing nations.
Wow.
You must remember that it’s all a ratings game. News media today are writing headlines just like we marketing experts write them – to pull more people in.
And we all know, for whatever reason, that bad news almost always attracts a lot more readers and viewers than good news.
Even in the world of celebrities, where you hear all kinds of stories that no one would ever care about hearing if it was a non-celebrity involved, you’ll rarely see headlines like, “Rock Star Hits Number One Again.”
Conversely, you’ll have a hard time avoiding such headlines as: “Rock Star Found Drunk in Alley with Pants Around Ankles – Foul Play Suspected”
You can’t possibly focus on building a business and financial freedom for yourself if you focus on the bad economy, random bombings in Iraq, the latest hatred spewing out at the world from Iran or bankers wringing their hands, praying for the bail-out they really don’t deserve.
Especially not if you concentrate on that poor sap in the alley.
Instead, you need to focus on the day ahead for you . What you are going to do to transform that tiny piece of the planet that you represent into a more empowered, wealthier individual who can then do a lot more to change the world later.
So – turn off the news. Definitely don’t start your day with it. Listen to some great music you love – music that gets you jazzed up and your heart pounding, ready for any challenges that lay ahead.
If you must watch the news – watch something like the Daily Show with Jon Stewart…or the monologue for one of your favorite late-night shows. These guys tell you what’s happening in the world – but with a punchline. They turn it around and make it funny. Even if it’s actually sad-funny.
And we all know laughter is the best cure for almost anything.
OK?
Now – this is a special week. You’ll be really glad you read this issue! I have an excellent gift for you today – and a couple of great pointers to hand to you.
First my gift. Last Tuesday night, August 12, I held a call where I announced the launch of my brand new Anti-Recession Revolution. This is something I call the FUN Money Movement. It’s easy to join and will change the world economic picture if we all work together!
Here’s a link where you can listen in to this call at no charge whatsoever!
Next up – three very good friends of mine, all experts at turning around your economic situation in a heartbeat, just released a complete system for beating back the recession. It’s called “Whack The Recession” and it’s one of the most complete systems I’ve ever seen offered for the very low price they’re asking.
It’s worth it to visit the site just to watch Uncle Sal talk about it on the great video they have there.
Check Out Shawn Casey, Tellman Knudtson and Harris Fellman’s “Whack The Recession” System Here
Finally – in case you haven’t noticed – video on the Web is absolutely without doubt the most powerful way to sell these days. Check out the link to the “Whack the Recession” promotion above to see what I mean.
I know by talking to these guys that the single video from “Uncle Sal” at the top of that page is bringing in more sales than all that lengthy sales copy below the video ever would on its own. I also personally know of marketers who are now simply forgoing sales letters on their Websites altogether because they’re replacing them with cool videos that do all the selling for them.
You need video on your site, too – but it’s not as simple as we’d like to make it sound. Don’t get me wrong – getting video on your blog or site is easy and fast. But you still have to do it right or you won’t see the results you could.
Kathleen Donaghy knows video. She’s a professional videographer who has produced full-length movies and PBS products for many years. And now she’s an expert online marketer.
If you want a low-cost way to put video to work on your Website to build your list fast ““ check out Kathleen’s new “Video Opt-In Profits” collection. For just a few bucks, you can pick from a selection of high-qualify beautifully themed videos designed explicitly to extract visitors’ names and email addresses in a heartbeat.

That’s it for this week. I’ve rescued you from the doldums, enlisted you in my new FUN Money Movement revolutionary army, handed you a powerful weapon you can use to whack the recession – and shown you a way to shine on your Website with super-high-quality professional video that creates a burning desire in people to opt into your list.
I think that’s a wrap! See you next week.
