‘Tiny, Tiny Connections’
I confess. I resisted joining Twitter far too long. I held my head high as all my friends Twittered away around me. I resisted so long I eventually earned the nickname, “he who does not Twitter.”
Then I threw everyone for a loop and finally decided to join. Now Twitter’s become an indispensable tool that enables me to contact and stay in touch with some of my favorite people in the Internet marketing world.
In case you’re not yet familiar with Twitter, it’s called a “micro-blogging” platform for social networking. They call it “micro-blogging” because users are limited to posts that are no more than 140 characters in length.
Here’s the deal. You can join Twitter free here . Sign up and set up your profile. You don’t have much space for a lengthy profile, either. Just a few words about you.
When you type a post, (known as a “tweet” on Twitter), it’s displayed in the general section of the system – and also in the personal panel of everyone who chooses to follow you. You can search the system for friends and people you know by name or by email address – and choose to follow them.
Following someone is as easy as clicking on their picture and, when their profile comes up, clicking the “follow” button.
Once you follow someone, every tweet that they post on the system appears in YOUR personal panel to read.
The whole thing is focused on brevity. Short, pithy messages to people following you with short, pithy profiles of each user. You can post a photo in your profile, too. This shows up by your username on the system when you post a tweet, making it easier to notice you. You can also personalize the background of your profile.
Members can also DM (direct message) one another privately. But they must be following each other to do so.
That’s about it. There are nuances up the whazoo and dozens of special applications you can add to your experience – but the whole idea was to keep everything simple and easy to grasp. No gigantic user manual needed. And you can breeze through all the tweets posted by a fairly large group of people you might be following in a few minutes.
What’s interesting is the fact that this clever platform was originally designed to provide people with an easy way to answer the question, “What Are You Doing Right Now?”
This leads to a lot of “going to the store,” and “shopping for new clothes” and “opening another beer” sorts of tweets, – but if someone you’re following never posts anything really interesting or useful, you can also go back and UNfollow them.
Depending on the people you follow and those following you, you can actually form your own social or business circle on Twitter and easily stay in touch with everyone.
Since I joined Twitter, I’ve managed to follow and stay in touch with dozens of people who I see regularly at conferences and seminars or other events, but never stay in touch with between such events. We swap tips, exchange ideas, hook up for projects and joke around socially. Just like we do when we’re together at the seminars, but now every day!
I’ve also gained a unique insight into the personal lives of people I care about, by reading their thoughts and seeing what they’re doing day-to-day.
It’s probably not hard to believe – but we’ve also found some great ways to make money using Twitter. And you do it basically the same way you make money with an email list – by interracting, providing useful information and help, then announcing your new products, blog posts and etc.
TIP: When you find someone you want to follow, look to the right when you’re on their profile. You can click on “following” and see all the people they’re following. Scroll through the list and look for people you might know or want to follow – then click the “follow” button and add them to YOUR list of people you’re following.
TIP: At first, follow as many people following you as you can. People appreciate the “follow-back” and you can always “unfollow” them later, if you find they don’t post any tweets of real interest to you. Just don’t try following hundreds of people – their tweets will fill your personal panel to overflowing fast and “tweets” in your panel evenetually “drop off” after several pages full.
Again, Twitter insists on keeping things simple. There is an archive of older “tweets,” but overall the system doesn’t hold your tweets for long.
I’ve only been on Twitter barely one month and already more than 250 people are following me. Now I’m ready to get ALL of you following me, too. And it’s easy.
First – go to www.twitter.com and register for a Twitter account, if you don’t have one. Then search for bbspress or @bbspress and follow me! I’ll take it from there and tweet you useful tips and ideas so we can brainstorm day-in and day out.
I look forward to tweeting you on Twitter!

I’ve got a great gift for you this week.
Michael Penland, a good friend and personal mentor of mine, has put together something really special. And it’s absolutely free of charge or obligation. It’s Internet marketing training from his “MAGIC 17 Billion Dollar Marketing Dream Team,” designed to transform your business into a cash-flow money machine.
This is simply too good to pass up. Just click the link to see all the amazing people who are contributing to this series of live info-packed calls. Remind yourself it’s free – because this is something you would easily expect to pay a considerable sum of money to obtain.
Knowing Michael, he’ll probably pull access to these great calls and recordings off the Web and start selling them on CD as a high-priced training system. And I wouldn’t blame him.
Get it all while there is no charge.
Space is limited and it’s already underway. But you’re far from too late to get in (recordings are available of the first couple of calls you’ve missed)”“ if you hurry!

To wrap up, I want you to do yourself a favor and help everyone around you in the process. Just listen to a call I recorded last week. You can listen to the call online or download an MP3 of the call and listen to it on your computer or favorite portable digital music device. Take notes and take action. It’ll change your life and just possibly the entire world.
That’s a pretty powerful claim – but take my advice and give it a listen soon. You can listen to the recording here:
