Recently, I was reminded of a farmer I knew when I was a kid. He had just
opened the gate to one of his pastures and was inviting me in with him to see
some cows up close and personal for the very first time.

It was a beautiful summer day and, like any kid, I was wearing shorts and
flip-flops. As he opened the gate, I’m sure I rushed it, eager to get a closer
glimpse of the gigantic-but-benign beasts who lived on the other side of the
fence.

As I burst through, the farmer said “Watch where you step!” Then he told me why
caution was warranted.
