Alan Bechtold’s latest ‘E-Wealth Report’ newsletter article:

Have You Ever Been EXPERIENCED?

Jimi Hendrix sang about it. You’ve been through it. Possibly many times.

You’ve most certainly had an experience that was so moving, so enlightening, so funny, so motivational or even so downright depressing that you found it was hard to shake the feeling you got from the experience for DAYS afterward.

And you remember the experience so vividly to this day. Just thinking about it brings up all the emotions and feelings you went through while you were in the experience itself. Simple triggers like a visual image, a smell or a sound can bring it up as well.

I’ll never forget, many years ago, sitting in an auditorium in Kansas City, Missouri, watching Pink Floyd perform their entire Dark Side of the Moon album from beginning to end for the first time ever – live.

I barely knew who Pink Floyd was before that concert. I went because some friends were going and they had an extra ticket. The band played their usual hit-and-miss experimental weird stuff for the first half of their show. It was ok. There were a couple of moving songs thrown in here and there as well.

But I wasn’t particularly impressed. Not enough to rush out and start buying their albums.

Then the band took a 30-minute break. When they came back, they played The Dark Side of the Moon from beginning to end.

It was the first time anyone in the audience had ever heard anything like it, because the album wasn’t even released yet. It was also the first time anyone in the audience had ever witnessed a light show and sound system like the one Pink Floyd put together for their presentation of The Dark Side of the Moon.

The album went on to become one of the longest-running best-selling LPs on the Billboard 100, still selling strong to this day. The light show became Pink Floyd’s live performance signature. And they earned honors as the most successful live touring band in history.

I was never the same after that night. I still get chills whenever I hear the album, because it brings that night back to me like I’m there again, feeling it and experiencing it all over again.

I’m not just pining away for the “good old days” again here. I bring this up because I want to ask you – what experiences have you created for your prospects and clients today? What can you do to really go out on a limb and over-deliver for your customers? How can you make even your marketing an experience your prospects always remember?

Keep in mind – Pink Floyd was already a successful band with a recording contract. They were able to sell out a good-sized auditorium in Kansas City, even though they’re from England and had never been heard on the pop radio stations before. The seats were already filled. They didn’t have to go overboard and roll out the most spectacular light and sound show ever created for a live act on the road before.

They had a really hot new album that was dynamite. Better than anything they’d ever recorded before. Destined to make them legends in the rock world.

Still – they made the very wise decision to gamble on throwing some amazing computerized lighting effects and dramatic enhancements to the show that I’m certain cost a bundle to produce. All in the name of making their performance of their new album an experience that went beyond any the concert-going crowds had ever witnessed before.

Soon the album was to-of-the-charts and the band was selling out entire 70,000-seat stadiums, sometimes within a few hours of announcing that seats were available. At prices no one had ever imagined people would pay for seats.

What can you do?

Thank goodness it’s a lot simpler for you and me. Sometimes, just the things you would think everyone should do will work fine, because most still don’t bother.

How about returning calls from customers quickly? If you have too many customers to call back yourself – what if you took every 10th call? Just answer the phone and over-deliver.

Or…what if, once a week, you picked up the phone and called just a handful – even three or four – of your best customers? Then, what if you went on to call two brand new customers and personally welcome them?

How can you jazz up your answering machine message so it all ties into a theme you then carry over to your Website, stationary, business cards and product packaging?

What can you do to your products themselves…or the way you deliver them…that will make people go WOW and remember you and the experience they had when greeted by your product?

What do you think this will do to your business?

I brought with me today the perfect example of experience marketing and product packaging in action. It’s a seminar I’ll be speaking at in Las Vegas, Nevada, next month. Check out the Website. These guys have pulled out all the stops to make this seminar truly a one-of-a-kind memorable experience.

It’s patterned after a rock concert, complete with VIP seating and floor seating, back-stage passes, “goody” bags, a red carpet walk and trips to the wildest spots in Vegas after-hours.

All of it has been carefully crafted to make the seminar so memorable you’ll learn and remember what you learned from each of the 12 experts they’ve invited to present during the event.

I definitely intend to make my presentation an experience-within-the-experience.

You most denititely need to make it to this one. I only speak at three or four events per year because I only want my name associated with the best, most information-rich experiences. This is going to be one of the most powerful, life-altering, memorable and fun experiences I could ever imagine inviting you to attend.

But ““ the “early bird” discount, saving you $300, goes away TOMORROW, Friday, February 20, 2009. The experience will still be worth 10 times what you paid – but you can save $300 and get the same experience by acting RIGHT NOW.

Consider this my personal invitation to come experience Rock Star Platinum for yourself. Then you will be a part of my experience, too!

I hope I see you in Vegas. It will be unforgettable in a number of ways – for both of us.

See you next week.
