14. Cookie Monsters Keep Coming Back

Did you think that you deleted your cookies? Think again.

It turns out that Flash cookies are stored in a different place than the browser cookies.So even though you may clear your browser cookies, the Flash ones reload for many web sites.

Just how many? First I deleted all browser cookies. Then I downloaded and installed the Flush app. It nuked 387 additional Flash cookies from my computer. Sheesh!

Surprisingly, few marketers are using the Flash cookie restuffing technique. After a random surfing session I discovered all sorts of ad agencies and sites ranging from news portals, to hotels, to social media sites stuffing cookies in Flash and loading them back into the browser.

Hmm, I wonder if they disclose the use of Flash cookies in their privacy policies? I’m sure the FTC will be on it. 😉

Bottom line… if you want to delete ALL your cookies, not just your browser ones, take a
gander at the article below.
