Traffic Tip Number 252.5 – Stop. Whining. Punk.
by Tinu AbayomiPaulOkay, well, maybe calling you punk is a little harsh. Got your attention though, right?
Now that I have it, I am simply compelled to tell you – stop thinking about what to do next. If you’ve spent more than 24 hours mulling over whether you should take the next logical step in your website promotion plan, you’re likely over thinking it.
So stop thinking at the first logical juncture.
And do something.
Do anything.
Pick one task, and do it.
Give it a test period, a time allotment each day, set a reasonable goal, and keep working until you meet it.
In 15 minutes a day for two weeks, you can get that article written, edited, spell checked, posted to your blog, then sent to Submit Your Article or another article distributor for mass distribution.
You don’t even have to submit the articles yourself! Done and done.
Give the results proper time to happen and see if the extra business is worth the time you put in.
What am I on about today?
Now that there’s so many opportunities to get cost effective traffic to a website, people are starting to complain that there are too many ways, so they’re going to stick to the way they already know works.
Seems reasonable on the surface. Why do something new?
Innovation is for young whipper snappers.
We’re old.
We’re tired.
We’re too busy for something like new customers, or reaching existing clients in closer, better ways. . . . Hello!?
Is This Thing ON?
That’s like saying if a new road is built to cut your commute time in half, you aren’t going to travel the new, more efficient road because you’ve never done it before.
If it works, it works. My darling, if you don’t like change, pray tell what art thou doingst on the internet? By not getting with the new program, you are leaving money – and your customer – on the table. I’m not saying hop on every bandwagon that passes by your door.
But when business blogging makes it to the cover of BusinessWeek (FOUR years ago, man. Are you blogging yet?), give it a serious head scratch. Talk to people. Ask around. Google It.
Is Facebook for business? Well it’s not what it was invented for. But it certainly won’t kill you to start a free account and ask people about their experiences with it. Worst case scenario, you wasted a few minutes researching. But what if it is the greatest thing that ever happened to your business?
Or what if it puts you back in touch with that old friend you knew in high school who you’ll later find out is a millionaire angel investor now?
Most likely you’ll at least find a new audience for your business blog posts. Not everyone find Facebook a good place to “talk shop” – but it’s a heck of a place to get to know people a little bit better. Those may be people you end up talking shop with elsewhere.
Does article marketing work?
If another person asks me that question, I may have to … I can’t think of a phrase that won’t be misconstrued as needing the attention of certain US government agencies. So I’ll just keep my mouth shut to stay of of Homeland Security’s radar, yeah?
And finish by saying this: … got a traffic problem? Here’s 7 simple steps to solving it.
1- Take note of where you are.
2- Pick a possible solution.
3- Research it. Buy a book, read about it on a blog for free. Anything other than stand still and cry.
4- Set a goal, a daily time commitment and a time frame.
5- Do it. Sue me, Nike, but … Just Do It. (Actually, buy me Nike. I’m a great evangelist.)
6- Take note of where you got to.
7- If it worked, find a way to do it over and over again. Outsource it if you must. Automate it if you can without losing quality.
Simple, no?
This has been a tough love public service announcement by Tinu Abayomi-Paul.
Because I do love you.
Well, at least, I like you a great deal. I’m not ready for, you know, that kind of commitment.
But I Do think you’re adorable.
