My Secret for Recurring Income
Today, I’d like to reveal to you a secret that has made me millions of dollars in recurring revenues. A secret that, when you put it to work in your life, could make you richer than you could ever imagine.
As you’ll see, it’s a remarkably simple secret. Yet, it could empower you to reap more wealth and opportunity in everything you do.
I call it…”Recurring Riches.” Money you work for just once, and then continue to benefit from over and over again.
Let me illustrate this secret in the only way I know; by telling you a story about myself. As you probably recall, I started my career in the advertising business. Specifically, writing sales letters, of all things.
It wasn’t all that exciting at the beginning. I would work roughly eight hours a day writing sales letters for a number of clients. They would pay me roughly $200 to $500. Good money, or so I thought.
Then one day one of my clients called to have me write another sales letter. He had this great product idea and wanted me to move on it quick. When I told him that I couldn’t start immediately, something funny happened.
He told me he’d give me double what he gave me for previous jobs. Double?
Hmmm…I was young at the time and couldn’t figure out exactly why he would want to do that. But then I connected the dots.
You see, the sales letter I had written for him was very successful. He never gave me the real numbers, but I estimate that he made around $50,000 every time he mailed it — and I think he mailed it three times.
So, while he made $150,000, I only made $500. So, of course he wanted to get me back on board quick. And if I could make him another $150,000, paying me $1,000 was still a steal of a deal…
…for him!
That’s when it occurred to me. Why shouldn’t I get in on the action for my letter’s success? After all, since I was writing a sales letter; why shouldn’t I get a “sales commission?”
So I said, of course, I’d move his sales letter to the top of my list, but not just for $1,000. I’ll do it for $1,000 and 10% of the sales. He was taken aback — telling me I was nuts.
But when he started to negotiate, I knew I was on to something. In the end, we agreed to a lower commission and a higher fee. But the result changed my life.
You see, no longer would I have to write dozens of sales letters. I could write one and get a check sent to me over and over again. In fact, in the next assignment to follow, I negotiated a deal that got me — hold on to your hat — $250,000 in commission for one sales letter that I wrote.
To be sure, my point isn’t about writing sales letters for a living. My point is that I wrote that sales letter just once, and then got commissions over and over and over again. I think that’s pretty exciting stuff.
