Answers to Your Most Pressing Money Questions
Regardless of your financial situation, money matters can often be a stressful topic. Furthermore, they consume plenty of our time and even more of our thoughts. Often, these thoughts aren’t the most positive. They are typically along the lines of, “How will I afford that?” “Where will the money come from to make this payment,” or, “Will I ever get out of debt and reach a point of financial freedom?”
No matter who you are, you likely have financial obligations that cause you some stress. I know I do. I often find myself planning where my money will go weeks or months before I
even get paid, all to make sure I keep on top of my cash situation and have my money where I want it.
And although it’s good to know where your money is going and be conscious of it, it becomes a negative when it consumes you.
For example, I’ve noticed that recently many of the conversations I have with friends revolve around money. No matter what we start off talking about, the topic always turns to financial commitments or the pressure we’re feeling on our wallets. Clearly, this is not a good thing.
Because of this, I’ve been thinking of ways to take my mind off the money — as hard as that may be!
The best way is to simply not spend. Now that summer’s come to an end and fall is pretty much here, it’s much easier to assume more financial responsibility. I typically find that,
starting around now, I go into an “expense lockdown” of sorts. Instead of going out often as I do in the summer, I tend to become somewhat of a homebody. I dedicate much of my
downtime to reading, watching television and running my businesses. These activities cost me next to nothing, and I love it!
Additionally, I find there is less of an expectation to spend during the winter months than there is during the summer months — something to be welcomed with open arms. In the
Northeast, where I live, there is almost a sense of obligation to get out and spend during the summer because the nice weather is so limited. There is seemingly always something to do, and you’re always expected to be there. Now that the temperature is dropping, those expenses seem to disappear.
If you’ve been stressing about finances the last few months, take some time and relax. Recharge your financial batteries over the coming months by remaining low-key and really
watching your expenses. The weather should make it easy!
