Recording PowerPoint Videos the Easy Way

A while back my partner told me he was talking to Michael Rasmussen about how Michael made his movies. Most of his videos are done using PowerPoint and Michael said he never used the Camtasia Plugin to PowerPoint to record the video. His reason was that the audio quality of the recording was too poor.

This was interesting to me since I always use the Camtasia Plugin. Was I not understanding the problem? Or was Michael?

Actually what I had done was to check the Camtasia initial settings for that plugin and found them to be really poor. They had used an audio codec that created really small files and really bad audio. What I did was to reset the audio codec to the same one that Camtasia Recorder used and the audio problem went away.

Anyway, a few days ago I bought Jim Edwards’ latest program, Camtasia Survival Guide Gold to see if he’d found some new tricks with Camtasia that I haven’t.

Now one word of warning… ask three people how to best use software and you’ll get at least three answers. While Jim’s training is pretty good there a few things he does one way that I do another. And of course I think I’m right J

Sure enough, Jim said to use the Camtasia Recorder to capture PowerPoint slides instead of the Plugin. So I decided to check out if it was just a matter of getting the right audio codec in the latest version of Camtasia.

And was I ever surprised… Camtasia has fixed that problem. The PowerPoint Plugin uses the exact same audio codec as they do in the recorder. No longer do you need to worry about getting the audio right using the Camtasia Plugin for PowerPoint.

I’ll be doing a review of Jim Edwards Camtasia Survival Guide Gold in a few days.
