The Credentials That Can Boost Your Info Marketing Business
Some people say we live in a society of paper. In other words, you need some sort of certification to do what you want. A license to drive, a degree or diploma to get a good job, a permit to build a house…there seems to be a piece of paper and, moreover, a necessity for it to do anything.
This can be a pain, no question. Certification is really costly and often doesn’t create better pros that the certification itself claims to do.
But then one thinks: what if my doctor was “self-taught?” What responsibilities would people have if there was no testing? What if we had no certification for anything? In essence, as
cumbersome as getting a credential is, it is helpful and often legally necessary.
In info marketing, it’s great that you are your own boss, applying your own knowledge, and getting paid for it. However, you will encounter instances where you will need to get a certification or two for certain kinds of information provision. It might not make you happy to get it, but it will be worth it in the long run.
Here are some common places in information marketing where it is wise or necessary to get some credentials:
— Real estate: Buying and selling property is a tough business. My aunt and uncle got into it and, although they do well, it’s a tough hustle. In order for them to get into it, they had to get
licensed. Until they explained it to me, I had no idea of what legal hassles one can get into if they are in real estate with no qualification to do so. If your info topic is real estate, great.
People need to know, especially these days, all the info they can get about property markets. But make sure you are certified to do so. You can take short courses at your local college or
through a real estate council to do so.
— Mechanics and technology: A guy in my hometown was severely injured in an accident at a gas station while dispensing propane. Another friend has a big scar on his chest from a
machinery accident in a factory. Both cases were the result of people working a job they were not qualified to do and they both could have been hurt far worse. If this isn’t enough for
info marketers to go out and get some sort of certification to dispense mechanical and tech info, nothing is. Knowing about fixing things is fine, but there are loads of amateurs doing it
and telling others how to as well. A real pro will get the right info to deliver to the public about maintenance, repairs, and most importantly, safety.
— Tax and government: Who doesn’t want the inside scoop about tax and government info? The idea of having people pay for info on how to reduce their taxes or get info that the government has but that isn’t common knowledge is a sweet inspiration itself. But there are a ton of hucksters out there, often operating illegally, providing bad info. Not only are they ripping folks off, but they are also on thin ice with the law. Don’t be one of these people. Get some sort of tax, law, and/or business certification so you can be the best info marketer to the public who really needs this type of info and will compensate you for it.
— Stocks: Again, I was really ignorant on how stocks operated. But after a friend at the bank treated me to a screening of “Wall Street” and a lecture in a cafe, I finally got into the swing of
things. You really have to have certified and often professional, on-the-job knowledge to offer any sort of stock advice. Stock investment, picking and monitoring all require people who have the right info on the subject and the certification to back it up. Stock information is a great info topic and exciting to boot, but make sure you get the right credentials first. Check online for securities courses or ask at your bank.
Taking classes, going to school, and waiting for that one piece of paper is never any kind of vacation. But in info marketing it’s sometimes worth it to play it safe and do what is necessary.
Not only will you save yourself a load of hassles, you will also be looked upon as the guru of your topic. That’s always a good position to be in.
