Weekend Success Bulletin

So you’ve been able to secure some sort of financing for your business. The check is in your hands and you’re ready to start spending it. But what is the best way to spend it?

Well, first of all, let’s eliminate the word “spend” and replace it with “invest.” The reason is simple; you have to act like an investor, not a spender. And what this basically means is that you have to figure out the best way to use the money to generate the best return.

Now, depending on the kind of business you run, this could be one of a myriad of items. It might be a piece of equipment that will help create the product you need to sell. It might be a marketing campaign that will increase exposure for your company and help build your brand. It could very well be a new employee who will either help generate more business, like a salesperson or someone who will help you make more
time to do it yourself.

Whatever it is, before using any new money, determine if there is a return on investment (ROI) for the money that you’re about to spend. I’ll get into how to calculate ROI in an upcoming article, but the basic premise is that the money you make will be more than the money and effort you spend over a certain length of time.

Some entrepreneurs might rush out with their checks to go and buy office equipment, get stationary printed, buy new suits, or purchase plane tickets and hotel stays so they can travel the world to promote their business.

And, while all of these investments have a certain value and potential to help you grow, they may not be as much of a priority or provide the same ROI as other potential investments.

I guess the best way to sum this up is: no business ever succeeded or failed because of the office supplies they bought or the size of their computer monitors.

Spend your money like an investor, not like a kid in a candy store.

Sincerely,
