Engage Your Customers with Social Media

Over the past few months, I’ve been writing more and more about the importance of social networking for marketing and growing your business. It is an essential step that must be taken for your small business to realize its full potential.

The key to using social networking as a marketing tool is to focus on engaging your customers/followers in two-way conversations. You’ve got to abandon the old-school thinking of trying to sell. Instead, you need to incorporate customer interaction by providing platforms for conversation, involvement and idea sharing.

It’s become increasingly important to customers to show that you care about them — and not just through a quality product and good customer service. These days, they want a more personalized approach. And considering many of them are accessing your social media sites through Facebook and Twitter on mobile devices, they should — these are much more personal mediums.

To further engage your customers and build a better relationship, use these social media tools to your advantage. Think about asking customers open-ended questions on your Facebook site or posting a survey. Ask them about problems that they are encountering, what they think some possible solutions are and what you can do to better meet their evolving needs.

Questions posed to customers fuel conversation and get them engaged with your business. It becomes a meeting point for customers to discuss things on their mind, while building trust for your company. When you reflect what they mention in your products, services and offers, it only improves your standing.

Using Twitter is also a great way to engage your customers. Periodically, post an interesting question that requires a thought-provoking answer from customers. This shows them that you really care about their needs and what they think. It also offers you a great amount of insight to their thinking and where you can take your business in the future.

Beefing up your social media marketing efforts to encourage engaging customer interaction can work wonders for your business. Use these relationship-building techniques to further the understanding you have of your market and improve your products!
