Seven Marketing Techniques Any Business Can Us
The following marketing techniques can successfully be used by any business. You can incorporate one or more of these strategies into your marketing campaign — it’s up to you. The appeal of these techniques is that you will be ahead of your competitors by applying them in your marketing efforts. Read on to learn more about some great techniques sure to increase your profits and your customer base.
Brochures and Magazines
Brochures and magazines are one of the easiest and most effective ways of communicating to your customer information about your product or service, providing something that they can take away with them after they have left your business. By creating clear, concise in-house brochures and small-scale magazines that highlight your products and provide additional information about the status of your business, you will create an intimate means of communication with your customer that will create loyalty.
Cold Calls and Telemarketing
Cold calls (or telemarketing) can be tough to do — but if done well, they can really increase your business’ success. A cold call is where you call your customers on a one-by-one basis and solicit them. You can gain a calling list by asking for each current customer’s phone number when they have made a purchase, or you can purchase a calling list from outside sources. It is ideal to use the first option, since you already know the customer has purchased from you in the past. Be polite when you call, and introduce yourself immediately. Don’t be ambiguous — be direct about why you are calling, and make the call as brief as possible. And remember that there is a “Do Not Call” registry that you have to abide by before doing any kind of telemarketing. That’s the law.
Community Involvement
One way of marketing your business is to get involved in your community. You can do this by taking part in local events such as festivals and street fairs, annual events, charitable functions and school and sporting events. Tradeshows and special events can also be a great place to promote your business.
Direct Marketing
Direct marketing involves sending a promotional message directly to consumers, rather than via a mass medium. Direct marketing is one of the best methods for a small business to employ. You can create simple direct mail, such as flyers, cards, or coupons that you can send your customers, or you can call customers (by yourself, or you can hire someone to do it for you) and let them know about new products or services.
E-mail Marketing
E-mail marketing is one of the most effective ways to keep in touch with your existing customers. It’s cost-effective and can help your business build brand awareness and loyalty. It is less expensive than direct mail marketing, and response rates on e-mail marketing campaigns are often strong.
Guerilla Marketing
Guerilla marketing is unconventional marketing intended to get maximum results from minimal resources. This method is only for the bold — you may want to avoid this method if you are creating a marketing campaign for the first time. However, if you have a bit of experience with guerilla marketing, you might want to keep it in mind. Examples of this type of marketing could be anything from offering a one-hour promotion, to having your business offer freebies at an unexpected or unusual event, to even hiring actors to perform in front of your business. The point of guerilla marketing is that
it employs rapid, highly active and often highly novel methods to grab the customer’s attention in a sensational or new way. It should be used sparingly and carefully — often this type of marketing is best done with the aid of a marketing consultant or professional.
Pricing
Deciding on a promotional price during a marketing campaign is crucial. A marketing campaign doesn’t need to involve a lower price, but if you do decide to go this route, remember that you don’t want to make the price so low that you do not turn a good profit, or the price change so minimal that it will go unnoticed by your customers. Pricing can be a valuable marketing tool — and, in fact, one of the most prominent methods you will want to advertise to your customers.
