How to Profit from Minor Annoyances
There are some things that are just plain annoying. Noisy neighbors, dogs barking in the middle of the night, and spilling coffee on freshly pressed pants.
Recently, I noticed a small home near where I live that probably has its fair share of annoyances. The most notable annoyance would have to be that it’s just a few yards from a very busy highway and there’s no sound barrier to protect it from the constant noise of speeding cars.
That means, day in and day out, there are speeding cars rushing past this house, causing quite the noise.
Well, that ruckus must have triggered some sort of lightbulb in the mind of this homeowner. Knowing that the home is in plain sight of a busy road and knowing that it’s hard not to notice this house, the homeowner seems to have come up with a decent way to cope.
Along the most prominent side of his house are large banners. One is promoting a roofing company and another advertises a daycare.
Whether the homeowner is involved in the businesses promoted or not is something I couldn’t tell. But I am certain that hundreds, if not thousands, of eyes view those banners each and every day. And that could mean someone is making money from what at first sight seems like a rather annoying situation.
This little, noisy house shows that you don’t need to invent something in order to create a moneymaking opportunity. You simply need to identify the potential hidden within the situation and then take the steps towards squeezing a little money from it.
Now, you don’t need to sell your space as advertising. Just take a look around where you are now. Find out what annoys the people around you. And keep your mind open; you never know what you could find.
