Start your novel
This past week I posted an article on bmyers.com about how a near homeless author had her novel rejected by many major publishers.
Out of desperation, she uploaded her book to Kindle.
The first month, it only earned her $41.
But rather than being discouraged, she uploaded two other short books she had written.
That was back in December.
Since then, her Kindle income has exploded – to more than $121,000 for the past quarter.
To me, that $40k a month income is a real motivator for writing and publishing books for the Kindle platform.
But you may be stuck for a book idea, so I’m going to help.
Your goal should be to write a romance or coming-of-age novel, with a strong lead character your readers can relate to.
To get started, think about how you met your spouse. Think of the back story, and how it could have turned out differently.
Then come up with a great first paragraph – the kind that makes the reader want to keep reading to see where the story goes.
To help you come up with a great first paragraph, go to your local library and visit the fiction section and read the first paragraphs of random books.
Doing that will help you understand the kind of first paragraph that will lead to your successful novel.
Here’s one I particularly like:
“Being an idiot is no box of chocolates”.
With a first line like that, you could take the book in so many interesting directions.
And that’s what Winston Groom did with his novel “Forrest Gump”.
One final point . . . if you are afraid you can’t write a long book, you’ll want to know that six out of the top 10 Amazon Kindle singles are less than 30 pages long.
You’ve probably written term papers longer than that!
Get started on your Kindle fiction this week, and you could be the next big success story!
