Reserving Space for Future Product Names
As you may have guessed from my recent ‘tips of the week’, I’m writing a novel I’ll be uploading to Kindle.
The novel has two main characters and one of them operates an adventure travel business – the kind of business that creates many interesting story line opportunities for the book.
As I was working through the plot, I realized it would be a good idea to register the domain name for the book title as well as the travel business mentioned in the book.
These domain names could be used for web pages promoting the book and to provide readers information about the book and future sequels.
As with all my domain names, I registered these names with Godaddy for $7.95 each, using the discount link http://x.co/XLSz .
Registering domain names for your books and other products before they are completed is a easy way to safe-guard the product name or book title on the web, while creating future marketing
opportunities.
In my case, not only did I register the domain name of the book I’m working on, I registered domain names of the two sequels I’m planning for the book series.
This cost me less than $30 and gives me additional motivation to get all three books completed.
Should I ever sell the TV & movie rights to the books (which is every author’s dream), I’ll have the domain names to add more value to the deal.
You might want to do the same with the products (and books) you’re working on. Register the domain names now, and they’ll be available when you need them.
