New Year’s Resolutions for Businesses

By: Tisha HedgesDirector of Operations, WorldwideBrands.com

It’s that time of year again to set your New Year’s resolutions! Not just for yourself, but you should be setting resolutions for your business.

So step back, and think about the progress of your business this year and how you plan to grow your business even more.

Here are some potential resolutions for you to think about;

1. Promote More!

Promoting a small business slips to the bottom of the to-do list because of so many other things going on. But if you want to attract new customers, you have to make promotion a priority. Make a New Year’s resolution to hire someone or take the time to create a plan on your own. Here are some low cost suggestions for promotion;

  • Use every piece of outgoing paper or email or any electronic communication as a business promotion. Make sure to sign everything with your store information. Bills, faxes, print on every envelope – anything to get your name out there. Someone may see it and be interested.
  • Write articles about your business or about products you are carrying. Get a blog to use to promote your sales or to talk about your products and ideas on how to use those products. These articles can also go into newsletters or you can publish them on free article marketing sites.
  • Find forums that relate to your business and make sure to post there often. Offer good advice, as well as push your store.
  • Find other retailers that have products that compliment yours, and market together! Run a contest between then 2 of you, cross market with them to reach larger potential customers by agreeing to include their brochures and they will agree to push yours as well.
  • Use your vehicle to promote! Magnetic vehicle signs are cheap and easy to get. Get your store name, URL and contact info onto your car for promoting wherever you go.
  • Use your hobbies as a way to promote. Get T-shirts customized with your company info and wear it when you go out to do your hobbies or when you go to large audience attended crowds. People take notice! For example, for my Mom’s birthday, I got her a coffee cup and a hoodie jacket branded when her company logo, name and contact info to wear when she goes out. She has been shopping in stores and people approach her to ask questions about her business! It works!

2. Learn something new.

You should grow with your business. Pick a topic that you don’t much about, and study it! Buy a book, read articles online from sources you trust, watch videos…

3. Set realistic goals.

Don’t set a goal to make a million dollars this year, set a reasonable goal and work hard to reach it.

Before purchasing with you, buyers must perceive that your business is legitimate and real. But establishing customer relations takes time. And if they don’t feel comfortable buying from you, you’ll never get a chance to develop those relationships in the first place!
