SchemaPress: Tell the search engines the details about your site #ad
Savvy marketers have always known that by giving the search engines the information they want about their site, their rankings will rise.
The problems is that in its quest to give searchers the best results possible, Google is constantly changing its algorithm. As Google changes, marketers have struggled to keep up.
The latest changes (known as “Hummingbird”) have been especially disruptive. The old paradigm of trying to dominate keywords is not as effective as it was in the past. Now, Google is looking for more from websites than what keywords it finds.
With Hummingbird’s algorithm, context is becoming more important in search. This “context” consists of the semantic connections between the content on your pages and the searcher’s query.
In this new search results ranking process, you need to make sure the search engines know everything they need to know about your page content so they will display your website when people search for something you can help with. This calls for more sophisticated structuring of the data on your website.
Some people call this data “structured data,” some call it “microdata,” and “rich snippet” also applies. The formal term is “schema.” This is the term the search engines have settled on.
By creating a schema for your site, you can give the search engines more data than ever before about your site, its purpose and its content.
The key point of schema data is that no longer do you just create text and hope that the search engines interpret it properly. Now you can tell the search engines what the text means. For example, you can say abc is a product name, def is the creator, ghi is its price, etc.
Creating a site schema is not usually a job for laypeople. That’s why Bill Guthrie, Manfred Ekblad & Russ Hayes have created SchemaPress, a WordPress plugin that will build your schema for you. And you don’t need any technical skills to use it.
Here is some of the schema data you can add to your site with this plugin:
• Business location & customer reviews
• People’s phone numbers and photos
• Author photo, name and links to other information
• Music Album lyrics and links to songs
• Product ratings, pictures and prices
• Event date, location and time

• Restaurant star ratings, reviews and prices
