Instagram Direct just rolled out, changing the way we use Instagram
Instagram, with its world-wide roll-out of new features of Instagram Direct, is are entering into a new market segment and competing with other big names.
In Techcrunch, Josh Constine reports “Back in November, Instagram launched ephemeral messaging in Direct as a separate section from permanent messages. But after seeing Direct usage spike from 300 million to 375 million monthly active users since then, it decided that disappearing messages were popular enough to give the spotlight by uniting the two communication types in a single inbox.”
The stock market seems impressed by these new features, which compete directly with Snapchat. As a result of the rollout, Snap Inc’s stock price took a dramatic fall.
But end users seem to be excited by the new possibilities this provides for communicating with their friends. The success of the test rollout a few months ago convinced Instagram to provide the features to all its users.
